CBC with indices, serum iron; ferritin, transferrin;
Best initial test: CBC with peripheral blood smear;
Hgb, Hct (Hgb = 3*Hct), B12;

RiskFactors

Menstruating or postpartum female; 
Acute or chronic blood loss (cancer, ulcer, burn);
Recent surgery;
Drugs: PPI, NSAIDs;
Celiac disease;
Vegetarian diet;
H.pylori;
Alcohol abuse;
