CaseDescription
A 35-year-old man is airliŠ°ted to the ED a ter a motor vehicle accident. He requires multiple trans usions, which stabilize his BP and hemoglobin. The following morning he is trans erred to his hospital room, where he begins to complain o numbness in his ngers. A prolonged QT interval is noted on an ECG.

This patient presents with symptoms o hypocalcemia following multiple blood transfusions. Blood products o ten contain citrate, which binds to serum calcium, leading to hypocalcemia, which can cause prolonged QT intervals.
